Nowadays,elementaryandsecondaryschoolsaretryingtheirbesttopromoteMandarin,whilesomedialectsarepushedaside.Inrecentyears,theargumentabouttheabolitionandprotectionofCantonesehasbeenexistedconstantly.TheprincipalofZhuhaiBoaiKindergarten,ChenShouhongsaidthatshewenttoBeichuan,Sichuanprovinceforinvestigationin2009foundthatthelocalQiangethnicchildrencanonlyspeakalittletheirlocallanguage,andmostofthemcouldn’twrite.ThisremindsherofCantonese;remindsthegraduallossofsouthernCantoneseculture.

    目前中小学校大力推广普通话，一些地方方言反被晾在了一边。近年来，关于粤语存废与保护的争论一直不断。珠海博爱幼儿园园长陈守红说，她2009年到四川的北川考察，发现当地羌族孩子对本民族语言只会说一点点了，并且绝大部分小孩已不会书写。这种现象让她联想到粤语，让她联想到岭南文化的逐渐流失。

    在一次与粤剧艺人交流粤文化传承时，陈守红意识到，保护本土文化应该从娃娃抓起，博爱幼儿园每年要举办一次戏剧节，如果引进粤剧，必须让孩子学会粤语。因此陈守红决定：开始粤语教学。

    陈守红说，根据教育部门规定，目前珠海博爱幼儿园小朋友的教学依然以普通话为主，粤语将通过其他有趣的方式让小朋友接触。
