Thesenewnumbersarefromdatabetween2005and2008andareconsistentwiththelaststudy,whichcovered1999-2004.TheCDCsaysthattherewasaslightdeclineininfectionratesbutthatitwasnotstatisticallysignificant.
Preventionstrategiescanhelpreducenationalrates,theCDCsaid,andthereareanumberofeffectivedrugsthatcanhelptreatandpreventoutbreaks.
Douglassaidpeoplewhoknowtheirherpesstatusshouldavoid***whentheyhavesymptomsorsores,limittheirnumberof***ualpartners,andusecondomsconsistentlyandcorrectly.
However,CDCexpertssaythereareanumberofbarrierstotreatment,includingpovertyandlackofaccesstocare.Theysayyoungwomenoftendon'tgettestedforSTDsbecauseofmisinformationandstigma.
